Cyclists wanting to improve their confidence are being encouraged to take part in training courses across the city.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Safe and Sustainable Transport team are providing a number of free cyclist training camps starting this August for children and adults. Camps continue in September and October finishing with New Year cycling camps for children who are having a new bike at Christmas.

The aim of the camps is to get more people cycling safely and on a regular basis. The training camps are being held in locations across Stoke-on-Trent including Leisure Centres, Parks, Westport Lake, Staffordshire University, The Civic Centre, the Chamber of Commerce and Stoke City Football Club.

The cycling camps programme begins with a learning to ride training camp at 9:00am for children aged 5-7, followed by a Level 1 training course at 11:30am for 7-9 year olds, finishing with a level 2 course at 1:30pm for 9-16 year olds on Wednesday August 8, 2012 at Westport Lake.

Further courses, such as cycling confidence for women, learning to ride camps for adults and advanced training for cycling commuters, are also planned in August, September, October and finish with a New Year cyclist training camp for children who have received new bikes at Christmas.
